Religion of Peace?

Lately everyone seems to be posting about the ‘cartoon’ issue in the Middle East. It has become a hot topic, so I figure it’s time to make this blog’s position clear. For what it’s worth, here is my 2 cents.

I’ve looked at the cartoons in question, and I must say that I understand if they offend some Muslims. This is, after all, their deity. If Christ were pictured in an offensive manner, I probably wouldn’t be that happy about it either. So I understand if they’re not happy about their religion being characterized in such a way. But that’s where the understanding stops.

To put it in perspective, I am a Christian in what has become a much more secular nation. People are tolerant of just about everything except Christianity. So on more than one occasion I’ve had to point out to someone how and why they’ve misjudged my religion. But I do it in a tactful, civilized manner. For example, you’d never hear this conservation:
“You Christians are nothing but a bunch of damn hypocrites”
“Oh yeah, well you’re going to hell for cursing, you son of a b#$@!”
Not an exactly an intelligent remark. About as intelligent as saying:
“Islam is not a violent religion, and I will kill you for saying that.”
Obviously, that wouldn’t go very far at making the argument. In one statement, the entire position collapses and one sounds like a complete fool, which brings us to the Muslims.

I could argue that these cartoons would never have been drawn if representatives of the Muslim faith weren’t crashing airplanes into buildings, lopping off the heads of journalists or blowing up subway stations. We’re not seeing any cartoons of Buddha because Buddha’s followers have never strapped themselves with dynamite and strolled into a daycare center. So the reason their deity and their religion is being portrayed in a cartoon, and portrayed in a violent manner is because they are violent. There are no ulterior motives here. But the Muslims disagree. They don’t want their deity’s image portrayed at all, much less in such a demeaning way. So how do they express their disagreement? By saying things like: “Death to those who insult Islam.” So by objecting in such a way they pretty much validate the very thing they object to.

At least maybe now the Europeans will eventually realize the vastness of the insanity that possesses these people. I mean, there are riots and calls for war over what? A friggin cartoon? And they call themselves a religion of peace?

Is there anyone out there who agrees that Islam is a religion of peace? Anyone? If so, please explain yourself and explain the actions of these people, because this isn’t a radical faction of fanatics. The people we see calling for death to those who insult Islam appear to be the mainstream. So is this the religion of peace?

We are at WAR, what we are engaged in today is *The Crusades - Version 2006*, just a continuation of ancient history and if it wasn’t the cartoons, the Muslims would find something else…

We eat bacon and sausage, we allow our women to show their skin, we woke up this morning and didn’t bow to Mohammed or Allah or whoever it is they face east and pray to several times a day, there doesn’t have to be a reason…

WE are willing to live and let live, let THEM worship as they see fit but THEY feel that WE are their sworn enemy because we don’t submit to their BS and intolerance…

President Bush says, “We reject violence as a way to express discontent with what may be printed in a free press” and I couldn’t agree more, if you’re dealing with SANE individuals, but we’re NOT dealing with sanity, we’re dealing with a cult of mad men…

How else would you describe anyone that can justify their murderous destruction by saying, “You insulted the prophet, you must be beheaded”… That is NOT the way a sane person deals with an insult, you don’t declare Jihad over a few cartoons, cartoons that weren’t even that good…

If this is all it takes to incite the Muslims to war, here’s an idea, let’s give them that war, right now, be done with it, a fight to the finish, winner take all… That’s what THEY want, either we submit to Islam or they kill us, well folks, it WILL be a cold day in hell before this old man submits to a CULT of radical maniacs…

And the sooner our President gets that same message from the American people, the sooner he’ll call up the courage to put an end to this travesty, once and for all…

And THAT is MY Opinion - Iraq Coalition Shrinking and Violence Continues

I'm not personally familiar enough with Islam to say whether it is a religion of peace or not. However, I'm familiar enough with Muslims to say that there are many peaceable believers in Islam, and many who condemn the sort of violence that is now occurring.

What I DON'T know, and doubt that you know, is what percentage of Muslims are reaching that point that they believe in violence-as-solution to various problems and to what extent they're willing to not use violence.

Just as I don't know what percentage of Christians believe in violence-as-solution and to what extent they're willing to not use violence.

It seems that Muslims are acting out violently in larger numbers. It seems to me that as Christians and/or world citizens, we ought to be asking why and trying to figure out a way of dealing with this violence short of trying to engage in fullscale war with a fourth of the world.

"asking why and trying to figure out..." I think it's clear why. Because we don't worship their god. Peace? They are not interested in peace unless we convert to their religion. It's written in their scriptures. Peaceable? Dan, I'd like to believe this but I've seen NO evidence supporting it. When these people protest a cartoon, yet stay silent when a few of their own fly a plane into a building of civillians, that's hardly peaceable. All I've heard is protest against a drawing, but can anyone name ONE prominent Muslim leader (with links) who openly condemned 9/11?

My goodness! All I did was post about a comment that was made on Daniel Levesque's blog, and Daniel is probably sitting in la-la land not even knowing what is going on. I think I should tell him! Okay, I will!

My apologies Fred. I didn't realize when I wrote that post that you would be followed to your blog! Please forgive me.
