“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded..."

Obama mentioned this in his infomercial the other night, and apparently this has been part of his campaign stump speech. I for one would like a little clarification on this matter. What exactly does Obama plan to do with this domestic police force? For what purposes will it be created? Is there some sort of law enforcement void that is not being filled by local authorities that we have to create a civilian national security force? And he wants to fund it to the same degree as the military?

I tell you, I'm slowly getting more and more uncomfortable with this guy.

Obama's website describes a Civilian Assistance Corps:

"Create a Civilian Assistance Corps (CAC): An Obama-Biden administration will set a goal of creating a national CAC of 25,000 personnel. This corps of civilian volunteers with special skill, sets (doctors, lawyers, engineers, city planners, agriculture specialists, police, etc.) would be organized to provide each federal agency with a pool of volunteer experts willing to deploy in times of need at home and abroad."

My guess is that this is probably what he is talking about in your quote. He recognizes that not every road to peacemaking is a military one. Seems reasonable to me.

If you want peace and to avoid war when possible, you have to invest in non-military solutions, not just fund for a war and hope for peaceful solutions.

A "civilian" police corp, under federal authority, in the Obama Government ? Yeah, we get it!

A C.A.C. is it ? Civilian Assistance!

A 'Non-military Enforcement' by armed thugs...trained by whom? Answerable to whom?

That fuzzy picture is clearing up just a bit, O.K.
Yep, now we get it! reb

reb,

Be afraid...Be very afraid. Load your gun. Lock your door. Hide under the bed.

Meanwhile, suppose there had been a coordinated volunteer group of doctors, engineers, coordinating specialists etc to help in the wake of Katrina, Rita, or 9/11?

No, no reb is afeared of those doctors. The wield scapels and may have syringes filled w/ who knows what.

If there were such a civilian force, I imagine Doc would be part of it, although he is not a civilian, provided he participation was allowed by the army.

See you whe you emnerge reb.

More insults. 2 Samuel i 19. As I said reb, you may as well lock your door inasmuch as you have already closed your mind.

Actually, that is putting the best face on it. If you had merely closed your mind, I could just walk away. Instead, you seem to perceive the world in caricature, which is a rather severe flaw in your information processing hardware. This is the primary reason why I no longer ead your blog. It rife w/ rumor and fear mongering and the "information" it contains and the opinions based on that information no longer pass the litmus test of being reality based.

It will be interesting, for at least 10 or 11 seconds, to see how youy react Wednesday morning. I suppose if Obama wins we can expect more of the same but what ever will you do w/ yourself if McCain wins?

John, Obama's statement did not refer to the formation of a paramilitary force of volunteer brown shirts. How very sad that some people are so blindly fearful they jump to ridiculous conclusions. If you have any doubts about his community service and organizational skills, this voter turn-out is an example of how he can motivate people. Methinks he took a page from the Republicans in getting out the vote. Yet, as for his dreams of getting enough Americans to serve their country the way he would like, it may just be pie-in-the-sky. They'd rather watch stupid abominable reality shows on TV.

I got the following excerpt from americanthinker.com:

"The immediate context for that amazing statement was a preview of parts of his plan to vastly expand community service opportunities for Americans of nearly all ages. He said, "People of all ages, stations, and skills will be asked to serve."

The range of his community service initiatives was outlined in an earlier American Thinker article. In his campaign document entitled "The Blueprint for Change: Barack Obama's Plan For America," Obama's "Service" section runs a close second to "Education" in complexity. But, with his Colorado Springs' statement, it grabbed first place in its projected costs to taxpayers. Obama did the cost projection himself.

He plans to double the Peace Corps' budget by 2011, and expand AmeriCorps, USA Freedom Corps, VISTA, YouthBuild Program, and the Senior Corps. Plus, he proposes to form a Classroom Corps, Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, Veterans Corps, Homeland Security Corps, Global Energy Corps, and a Green Jobs Corps. Here a corps - there a corps - everywhere a corps corps.

So it made sense in Colorado Springs when he said his call to community service "will be a central cause of my presidency." He couldn't be clearer in signaling his intentions, including a Social Investment Fund Network to link local non-profits with the federal government.

The entire plan is breathtaking in its scope. But it does not, as at least one internet writer has suggested, portend a "giant police force." It would be easier to rebut if it did. As it is, it's silly stuff born of naively fanciful dreams".

The "naively fanciful dreams" exist
only in the minds of those poor deluded souls who buy into the hate-mantras of "General Betrayus" ala MoveOnDotOrg, and the oft repeated slogans of "Failed Bush Policy In Iraq" and "Four More Years..."and "Yes We Can!", 'Our Time Has Come", also 'New Direction' and 'Change', repeated dozens of times daily in the Main Stream Media 'til the mind blurs.

Years of that clap-trap has had its effect on us all, for the mind is a thirsty sponge, accepting negative and positive suggestions equally, and without prejudice.

So, it boils down to money, lots of
it, in the final tally; he who holds the gold, will select the winner, and that's the bottom line to a very sad conclusion.

Some of us eagerly buy the slick sales pitch, others tend to resist it.

Obscene hundreds of millions per month thrown to the wind on 'sound-bytes' and rallies, and 'contributions' to hack politicians, CEO's of Fannie & Freddie, stuff their pockets and run, and Big Lending Institutions write sub-prime worthless paper, and the real estate bubble finally bursts! Forty-year home equities vanish in a month, and we bail out the guilty! Jail is what they've earned, and these thieves will buy slick lawyers to protect their necks.

"Failed Bush Economic Policy" cries
Nancy Pelosi. It's the Republicans! No, It's Wall Street Investors, cried another. Humbug.

Look in the mirror. reb

Okay, seriously? A classroom corps? A health corps? Veterans corps? What is the point of all these corps? And, what business does the federal government have spending money on them?

So, creating a school corps has to do with national defense? Can you please explain how? And a veteren's corps is for national defense? I'm just not getting it.

I don't know the specifics about each of these you're talking about. Do you have a source?

What I was speaking about was what is on Obama's website, where he talks about his specific plans, which include:

"This corps of civilian volunteers with special skill, sets (doctors, lawyers, engineers, city planners, agriculture specialists, police, etc.) would be organized to provide each federal agency with a pool of volunteer experts willing to deploy in times of need at home and abroad."

And the explanation is there at the end. What are you talking about?

This corps of 'civilian volunteer police' that are "willing to deploy
in times of need...at home and abroad" are a mysterious string of phrases that cry out for some clarification...or must we just accept it as sloganism, and just thrilling political hyperbole?

We The People have bought a total mystery man, with an unknown agenda, with an unknown religious loyalty (certainly not that "Black Liberation Theology stuff) that may or may not be revealed in the coming months.

The leadership in Wahhabi & Shia nations will be cautious in their public approval, and Vladimir Putin is grinning, and planning a Ukrainian (?) Test for Junior Obama.

Oh, and when do we attack Pakistan, Mr. Commander In Chief?
McCain didn't bother to ask.

Remember Obama's promise to get Osama bin Ladin...kill him? Cross Pakistan's Sovereign Border? Well, show us your stuff, Barry. Few of us believed THAT whopper. Go Barry, Go!

And when can we expect you to sit down and negotiate with Ahmadinejad
...without pre-conditions, about his enriching U-235? Better tell him to just Stop It!

We are more enclined to believe that you're more serious about that All Civilian Volunteer, Deployable (armed) Police Force that will be needed when all those promises made...fail to materialize.

Maybe I am a little late on this topic as the discussion as changed. However, isn't this one of the major complaints of the Dem's towards Bush/Cheney. We have listened to them for years now bitch about Haliburton and Blackwater and now Farrakhan's messiah is calling for similar activities and that is OK?

As I keep asking: WHAT police force are you talking about? I've pointed to what Obama has actually spelled out on his website, the CAC. The CAC is absolutely not an equivalent of Haliburton and Blackwater.
