John Coleman, founder of the Weather Channel, recently wrote this article. I felt obliged to include it in a When Evil Prospers post.

It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM. Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long term scientific data to create an illusion of rapid global warming. Other scientists of the same environmental whacko type jumped into the circle to support and broaden the “research” to further enhance the totally slanted, bogus global warming claims. Their friends in government steered huge research grants their way to keep the movement going. Soon they claimed to be a consensus.

Environmental extremists, notable politicians among them, then teamed up with movie, media and other liberal, environmentalist journalists to create this wild “scientific” scenario of the civilization threatening environmental consequences from Global Warming unless we adhere to their radical agenda. Now their ridiculous manipulated science has been accepted as fact and become a cornerstone issue for CNN, CBS, NBC, the Democratic Political Party, the Governor of California, school teachers and, in many cases, well informed but very gullible environmentally conscientious citizens. Only one reporter at ABC has been allowed to counter the Global Warming frenzy with one 15 minute documentary segment.

I do not oppose environmentalism. I do not oppose the political positions of either party. However, Global Warming, i.e. Climate Change, is not about environmentalism or politics. It is not a religion. It is not something you “believe in.” It is science; the science of meteorology. This is my field of life-long expertise. And I am telling you Global Warming is a non-event, a manufactured crisis and a total scam. I say this knowing you probably won’t believe a me, a mere TV weatherman, challenging a Nobel Prize, Academy Award and Emmy Award winning former Vice President of United States. So be it.

I have read dozens of scientific papers. I have talked with numerous scientists. I have studied. I have thought about it. I know I am correct. There is no run away climate change. The impact of humans on climate is not catastrophic. Our planet is not in peril. I am incensed by the incredible media glamour, the politically correct silliness and rude dismissal of counter arguments by the high priest of Global Warming.

In time, a decade or two, the outrageous scam will be obvious. As the temperature rises, polar ice cap melting, coastal flooding and super storm pattern all fail to occur as predicted everyone will come to realize we have been duped. The sky is not falling. And, natural cycles and drifts in climate are as much if not more responsible for any climate changes underway. I strongly believe that the next twenty years are equally as likely to see a cooling trend as they are to see a warming trend.

Well said, Mr. Coleman.

Certainly the effect of human activity on climate change is fairly debatable. But just so I am clear. The glaciers in Greenland aren't melting/ The snow fields on Mt. Kilamanjaro aren't receding? The Artic Ocean isn't becoming freer of ice? The ice shelves surrounding Antarctica aren't breaking apart? The permafrost in Siberia isn't melting? Springs are not arriving sooner? Summers aren't hotter? Autumns are not later? Climate zones are not climbing mountains? I just want to be sure that I am not being misinformed

Let's ignore the evidence. When
Miami is followed by NYC into the
rising Atlantic, we can blame it on Carter...

The 'other side' checks into Mr. Coleman's credentials: http://www.stageleft.info/2007/11/10/meanwhile-the-friendly-giant-speaks-out-on-endocrinology/
..not that he isn't entitled to an opinion.

Fairly debatable? I think that's a bit of an understatement. And no, you haven't been misinformed. The things you mentioned are indeed happening to some extent, but there is no definitive evidence that they are human induced. You may be wrong about the antarctic ice shelves. I actually think they are growing more than breaking apart.

BB, the evidence? Do you have indisputable evidence of human induced climate change? If so, I'd love to see it. As far as Coleman's credentials, I think if you researched the credentials of the UN IPCC you'd find similar short comings.

My position on this issue has always been one advocating responsible action. Taking drastic measures of any kind without evidence supporting such action could be disastrous. So far, what I've seen from the chicken littles of climate change suggests this is nothing more than a political ploy aimed at neutralizing America's economic, industrial and military strength. When's the last time anyone called on China to reduce their carbon emissions?

JW, my contention is that each side in politics has grabbed opposite edges of the issue. Since I am not a climate scientist, the only evidence is my experience, for example as a lab researcher through the years and being exposed to such things as acid rain
and chloroflourocarbon/ozone phenomena (both of which have their
'deniers' based soley on politics.)
As of late there is over 6 billion
of us of the sapiens persuasion, very high in light of our history as a species: we generate a lot of
chemical waste and it affects our environment. I guess details like the relationship between rising net
temp and CO2 level or between storms/drought/heat and normal cyclical climate are what we need to be worked out. Therein lie both scientific and political argument.
While I personally do not buy in to the Al Gore types, I certainly
do not buy into head in the sand
response either. The data is still coming in: unfortunately, there are some smart folks on either side as well as really dumb ones..hence a good deal of disconcerting clutter drowning the hard data.

Someone should mention the fact that China & India now top the USA
in pollution! Perhaps we should send Al Gore as our High-Level Envoy. It's tough to see the sights in Beijing any more with the level of coal-smoke; and those poor Olympic Athletes will require masks and oxygen tanks! reb
